About: CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a national organization that trains and supervises community volunteers who are appointed by court judges to represent the best interest of children who have been abused and neglected.  This organization was founded in 1977 by a Seattle, WA judge who wanted trained volunteers to become his eyes and ears in the community and report back to him with recommendations of what needs to happen to protect these children.  Northern Essex County CASA Program began serving children in Northern Essex County, Massachusetts in 1992 and today serves about 100 children in two courts.
