We’ve posted some super pretty designs from you fab designers! In case you missed it on Facebook, check out some recent custom made bags:
Wow … I just found these old pics of some of our first attempts at recycled t-shirt bags. We’ve come a long way in the six years these pictures have been taken – one of those bag styles doesn’t even exist anymore!
I believe a clean space = a clean mind. It’s easier to think and be productive in a clean room, never mind a lot healthier.
Everyone is super busy though and it’s hard to keep up with a clean house. That’s why I loved these 10 easy tips from the Huffington Post about changing messy habits.
I especially love tips #7 and #8 about wiping down the sink and counters ’cause you KNOW kitties are all up in there. Especially our little one named Smoke:
I think Lulu is still recovering after last night’s revelry. I hope you and yours had a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season.
Welcome 2014, I have a feeling you’re going to be tremendous!
Pantone’s color of the year for 2014: Radiant Orchid! What do you think? Do you like? For me, nothing get’s better than 2013’s color of the year which was emerald. I LOVE JEWEL TONES.
Happy Thanksgiving designers! I hope you have a day filled with laughter, family, friends and gratitude. I’m thankful to each of you for lending eThreads your opinions, support, and general awesomeness. Thanks guys! Enjoy the day!
(PS – This is a picture of a wild turkey in our neighbor’s backyard. We live on the 3rd floor so this guy is like 40 or 50 feet up. Crazy!)
Confession time … I maaaay have started eThreads partially to pardon my fabric addiction. Every time I stopped in a fabric store or perused online, I could finally say, “It’s ok, it’s for business” and feel good about dropping cold hard cash on my cotton and canvas.
So, with that in mind, our big fabric shelf at the studio is my happy place. It’s colorful, it’s whimsical, and I remember where I bought each fabric, so it’s kind of like a trip down memory lane.
Well, my happy place just got a whole lot happier because we added dozens of new fabrics to the site and seeing them stacked up on our shelf is making me giddy. You guys have been asking for more navy prints, nautical themes, butterflies, owls, flowers and other graphic goodness. I found everything you’re looking for plus fabric you’ve likely never seen before – Mini coopers, Superheroes, Star Wars and Tootsie Pops – what to the what?
You’ll find the new prints under “Cotton 4”, “Canvas 2”, and “Specialty.” Look for them on the bottom of each tab. People have already been making some really gorgeous bags with the new fabrics, check em out:
Why? What’s it in for you? Quite a lot!

During 32 years on Earth I’ve been lucky enough to call 2 dogs and 15 cats my pets. At one point my childhood home was stuffed with 2 kids, 2 dogs and 4 cats – that was our peak. Even though I’ve known so many great cats, I never felt real ownership until now. We have two feline friends, Smoke and Lulu. We are technically foster parents to our Calico named Lulu, but after 7 years I think she’s officially ours. Smoke however is an entirely different story.
The husband Case and I were talking about getting another cat, but decided our Cambridge, MA apartment was too small for two cats and we’d wait until we got more space. Then one cold October night in 2011, we heard a buzz at our door around 10 pm.
Turns out someone had left a dirty old cat carrier on the doorstep of our building. Our neighbor noticed it after a few hours and got really worried. She took it inside and was about to call the ASPCA when another neighbor suggested Case and I might want it. My life has not been the same since.
I heard the buzz and answered the door. My neighbor was outside, holding up a dark dirty cat carrier, asking if we want a cat. We didn’t even look inside the box and we said yes. I pictured a mangy, feral cat and I resolved to take care of it no matter what.
As we open the carrier door and wait for the cat to walk out, a tiny white paw appears, then another, then the most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen. A little 6 pound Siamese cat walks out of the cage, gives her first cry, and steals my heart in 5 seconds flat.
We named her Smoke because she’s grey and appeared out of thin air. We got the all clear from the vet to keep her, and spent two weeks assimilating Smoke with Lulu so they’d build a good friendship.
Almost two years later, all four of us are quite swell and Smoke inspired our cat toy business Ferocious Friends and her own Instagram account. She is always sitting next to me, so when I’m working in my home studio she has to be front and center. Cats and fabric don’t always mix, but we somehow make it work. I mean, with this face, how can you say no?
One of my mother-in-laws (yes, I have a few, the husband Case has a complicated family) just sent me an email simply titled “Gorgeous!” and link. She’s got good taste, so I thought, “I’m in” and gave it a click.
Woah. Wow. OMG.
“Gorgeous” does not begin to cover it. Nor does “breathtaking,” “awe-inspiring,” or my favorite, “friggin cool.”
Patrick Dougherty takes tree saplings and manipulates them into massive standing structures. Some look like houses, others like exotic trees, and some like they came straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.
Take a moment to peruse Dougherty’s gallery, it’s worth it. I feel very calm and centered when I’m looking at these. What do you feel? Do you like?
